How To: Get Your Work Out There

Whether you are still in college or you've just gotten out getting your work out there is a big part of starting your career in Mass Communications.
No matter what you're doing: photography, cinematography, journalism, advertising etc. there is many different types of sites you can use to showcase your work.

WEBSITE #1

Cargo is a quick and easy website that allows you to create your own URL and publish any type of work you might have. Its a good way to showcase many different projects you might have and simple for people to click your link and browse around.

WEBSITE #2

Although you might know tumblr as just a fun blog to look for pretty pictures and find some quick inspiration, a lot of my favorite photographers have made it big all because of tumblr. Posting pictures is easy and you are able to tag your photos with words that people might be searching for "concert" "black and white" "cars" etc.  My favorite Rapper photographer known as "blackprints" is only 20 years old and just because of tumblr was noticed by her love of concert and portrait photography and now gets to go on tours and is living her dream.

WEBSITE #3

I know what you might be thinking, craigslist? Really? Yes, really! Okay so craigslist might not be a place to show your work but its a great place to find work. If people are in need of a quick photographer, editor, writer they will post an add and responding to it is a great way to branch out your work and even make some quick cash!

WEBSITE #4

Last but not least, blogger! Blogger (for me) is one of my favorite blogging sites out there, as I'm using it now it one of the easiest and free blogging sites around. You could pay $12.99 a month or more for a big time blogging website but why do that when blogger exists?! Blogger is a great way to show off your creative writing side, its an easy way to being a career in journalism. Its easy to get people to check out your blog and you are even able to throw in key search words on your blog that people are able to look up on google or bing and have your blog pop up! Its also a great thing to have to show at a job you want to get so they can see what kind of a writer you are.

These are not the only sites out there for you to use but they are my top picks! I hope this has helped you out a bit and makes you want to create a site if your own!
